Cultural Digital

Hello there
This week, I bring you games, interactives, and doodads. All with a cultural edge. There's some other bits of news in there too, but the important thing is that you give Mansion Maniac a quick go.
In fact, let's start with that.
Mansion Maniac has been built from digitised assets of the New York Public Library's collection of Apartment Houses of the Metropolis. I like it a lot.

Fun (and thought-provoking) stuff
Network Effect explores the psychological effect of Internet use on humanity. It's by Jonathan Harris and Greg Hochmuth.
Dublin Rising 1916-2016 has been built by Google in partnership with Ireland 2016.
You can see the Royal Academy's Ai Wei Wei exhibition in 360 degrees. I got a bit frustrated with this one - it felt like Street View-lite, the rooms were oddly distorted if you looked around, and you can't tell how long the videos are (or skip through them). Still pretty good though.
Tom Brewe has made a thing called Dynamuseum and hooked it up to the V&A's API, so you can wander around virtual rooms looking at art.
This is the Museum of Endangered Sounds.
Some reports
Essential Digital Infrastructure for Public Libraries in England: A Plan moving forward. Minus ten points for the use of 'moving forward'. I mean, really.
The Arts and Science Destinology: Digitizing Destinations 3.0. This one's been summarised by Museum Hack.

The Natural History Museum is aiming to digitise 20 million specimens - a quarter of their collections - over the next five years and apply the products to scientific research.
The British Museum is thinking about creating API access to its data. Take a look at this survey if that interests you.
