Cultural Digital #082 - seeking profound experiences
Cultural Digital
Hello
A relatively quick one this week, but that's not to say there's not some good stuff to check out. There's some great stuff. And some puns. Onwards…
SFMOMA's Keir Winesmith is Against Linked Open Data. "Data (yes!), Open (if you explain how to access it and keep it up to date) and Linked (only in very rare circumstance, when there is a clear ROI*). If your institution isn’t using the Linked Data, and it’s your Data, why would outsiders be interested?" I'm expecting a follow-up titled 'Getting your DUCS in a row'.
Manchester International Festival is happening and has lots of digital-related things of interest. There's a live blog on the BBC website which would also point you to a recording of the livestreamed 'What Is The City But the People?'. Lost Memories Dot Net is one of their digital commissions and was created by Nina Freeman in collaboration with Aaron Freedman.
Adventures in cross-sector collaboration: learning so far from the Museums Hack Day at Southampton Solent University. "Representatives from over 20 digital businesses and all four of Hampshire’s universities took up the challenge: to come up with innovative, financially sustainable solutions to intriguing real-world challenges brought along by our six selected museums". Loved the bit about the no-shows.
Hackney Empire have been working with Hawk-Eye (yep, the one from Wimbledon and other sporting events) on a proof of concept to deliver cheaper digital recording in arts venues.
9to5 is "a month-long digital art exhibition in Atlanta that dissolves the boundary between artist and audience by way of an experimental livestream and other emerging interfaces". There's an open call for projects.
Engadget’s $500,000 immersive art program is open for applications. "we're funding immersive art projects (no, they don't have to be AR or VR specifically) that focus on the theme of Alternate Realities".
Yayoi Kusama’s Art for the Instagram Age "Is Yayoi Kusama’s new participatory-art exhibit about seeking profound experiences—or posting selfies?" Why not both?
Queen + Adam Lambert launch VR concert experience. It's called VR The Champions. Or course it is.

Jobs
There are digital-related jobs available at the Imperial War Museum, and Opera Holland Park.
Thanks! Please forward this on to anyone you believe to be deserving and have an excellent week.
Cheers
