Cultural Digital
Hello
This week we have music, collections, and a pen that can see the future.
World’s Largest Digital Art Display Will Go Live This Fall in Chicago. "Called ‘Art on theMart,’ the permanent large-scale lighting installation will be a digital canvas spanning across nearly 3 acres of its river-facing façade". It's apparently going to be for public art only - no commercial/sponsored content.

The Scrying Pen from Andy Matuschak is something you can have a play with. "This pen's ink stretches backwards into the past and forwards into possible futures. The two sides make a strange loop: the future ink influences how you draw, which in turn becomes the new "past" ink influencing further future ink".
Music and tech
Sónar teams with Barcelona hospital on immersive patient-experience audio project. It uses binaural sound and the idea is to "encourage empathy in health workers by immersing them in the experience of the patient".
Is Secretive Virtual Reality Startup Magic Leap Dreaming Up the Future of Music? "A first look at the billion-dollar company’s potentially game-changing collaboration with Sigur Rós". This is who the RSC have announced a partnership with.
Lena-Lisa Wüstendörfer's website has a thing visualising her conducting.
Collections
Expanding Our Collection's Global Reach on the Spanish Wikipedia. Lessons from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
MKG Collection Online: The potential of open museum collections. "Looking at the example of the MKG, the potential of open access for digitized museum collections will be outlined. Furthermore, the challenges of this open access policy and the wider implications of openness for the museum, other cultural heritage institutions and society will be discussed".
Other things
An interview with Melissa Firth, Te Papa's chief digital officer.
Museums in a Digital World is the name of the 'digital' category on the Network of European Museum Organisations website. Looks like a decent source of info.
Damien Hirst hates sausages! How Instagram became art's new playground. "Twisted selfies from Cindy Sherman, strange fruit from Wolfgang Tillmans, skull revelations from Damien Hirst … as artists muscle in on the app, what have we learned about them".
Jobs
There are digital-related jobs available at the Natural History Museum, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Museum of London, and English Touring Theatre.
That'll do us. Please spread the word about any interesting bits with others (or send them the whole email - whatever works for you).
Catch you next week
