Cultural Digital newsletter #132
Cultural Digital
Hello
Last week I promised darkness, phantoms, and tea towels. One of those didn't make the cut this week. Maybe next time though.
Field of View sets historical photos in a LiDAR scan of the State Library of NSW. The project came out of their DX Lab Digital Drop-In Program which supports "quick sprints of exploration using innovative technologies to engage with the Library’s collection and data sets". This blog post explains the process for developing it and is quite an accessible read, considering the subject matter.
Accessibility
Hull Truck Theatre's case study on improving online access, by Box Office Manager Danielle McLoughlin, is very good. "In 2017 I wanted to improve our online booking system for access customers, and this case study outlines the key steps that I have taken so far".
Metropolitan Museum Aims for Accessibility with Sign Language Tours on Facebook Live. "52,000 people tuned in to watch the museum’s first Facebook Live ASL tour, which showcased the Rodin at the Met exhibition".

Digital Catapult and Arts Council England Reveal Five VR And AR Projects Set to Transform Creative Storytelling. "Five projects will receive a total of £350,000 in funding, alongside match funding and support from a range of createch (creative technology) and cultural organisations". I think we all know that 'createch' is not a phrase that's going to take off. See also: 'phygital'.
Other things

Andy CarnegieBot "I'll guide you to adventure—and rewards—this summer at all four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. As you visit the museums and attend special events, you’ll earn stamps. Each stamp boosts your chances of winning in the grand-prize drawing".
The Gardner Museum Heist, Still a Mystery, Now a Podcast - The New York Times. "The true-crime podcast, called “Last Seen,” is a joint project by radio station WBUR, an NPR affiliate, and The Boston Globe".
Artists Tea Towel Company: Noel Clueit "The design conveys the journey of a tea towel becoming an image, then returning as a tea towel transformed through technology and means of production".
Jobs
There are digital-related jobs available at Art UK, the Crafts Council, British Museum, and more.
Maybe next week there'll be something about phantoms. Maybe not. I'm going to stop making predictions. Have a good week!
