#164 - Pass it on
Cultural Digital
Hello
This week there are a few games, because they've been missing from this email for a while. There's some other stuff too.
Learning Synths from Ableton is bleeping great.
Games
Meet Kids, the illustrated game that’s also a film and an installation. "Artist Michael Frei and game designer Mario von Rickenbach created Kids to explore how the game-making and filmmaking process could come together".
Bad News. "From fake news to chaos! How bad are you? Get as many followers as you can".
Music
Memes Are the New Pop Stars: How TikTok Became the Future of the Music Industry. I feel so old.
The Classical Music Market: Streaming’s Next Genre? "new consumer data that presents a unique view of classical music consumers and how they are engaging with streaming".
Staying alive
Time-Based Media Conservation at Art Museums. "What happens when changing technologies render once-avant-garde works of art outdated? See how a growing group of conservators is trying to keep art alive".
Microsoft's Ebook Apocalypse Shows the Dark Side of DRM.
Miscellaneous
Culture is Digital: June 2019 progress report. Short version: some bigger agencies/funders are taking 'digital' a bit more seriously, there's some skills stuff, the Arts Council's Digital Culture Network launched, those Digital Culture Code and Maturity Index things are happening, there's been work on IP rights terminology, and some larger orgs are doing some collaborative R&D projects.
HTC Vive Creates The Louvre’s First VR Experience Mona Lisa: Beyond the Glass.
Sonar's +D is the "international congress exploring how creative minds are changing our present and imagining new futures". It's on this week and everyone speaking looks really interesting. And also quite cool.
QR Codes: Alive and Well in the Museum? From The Whitney. "TL;DR: Apparently QR codes work, pass it along".
Join the Maker Revolution. "The project invites schools and cultural organisations to work together and use simple digital tools to produce creative outcomes, responding to the theme of ‘Revolution’".
Decorating a broken wall with a 3D Pen. This is best enjoyed with the subtitles turned on. Trust me.
Jobs
There are digital-related jobs available at National Museums Scotland, Victoria & Albert Museum, the Wellcome Trust and others.
Thanks for reading. If you're at the AMA Conference this week then say hi if you see me.
Finally, if you or someone you know manages social media for a cultural organisation then the social media survey is still open. Please fill it out or pass it on.
