#167 - Full majesty
Cultural Digital
Hello
This week we have AR, data, and pixel pushing. And doughnuts.
I'm a fan of James Curran's 3D Guggenheim Doughnuts. You'll need to give it a click to appreciate its full majesty.
AR
Augmenting abstraction: Facebook Expands AR Experiences with Tate. "We worked closely with Tate, along with Facebook’s Creative Shop and The Mill, to reframe eight pieces at Tate Britain using the Spark AR platform".
Barry Threw on Twitter says "I went on on the @apple [AR]T walk, and have thoughts".
Data
Inside a New Museum (Part 1): Digging Into Data. "George Oates writes about her two-week data residency at M+ along with developer Dan Catt".
Talking Digital Colonialism with Morehshin Allahyari. "In her new performance lecture title “Physical Tactics for Digital Colonialism,” Allahyari explores what it means for data to be colonized".
Reporting visitor data: are dashboards (one) answer? A round-up of museum dashboard resources.
Simon Denny's MONA exhibition brings a giant board game into the gallery to teach visitors about data mining.
GLAM workbench. From Tim Sherratt: "This is a collection of Jupyter notebooks to help you explore and use data from GLAM institutions".
Miscellaneous
How are the V&A’s online collections used? "Earlier this year, as part of the current redesign process, we completed the discovery research phase for the V&A’s online collections". Jack Craig with five things they found out.
Art or Not. "Have you ever been confused by whether that 'random' object in a contemporary art show is art? SensiLab's new Art or Not app is here to help!"
Bootcamp - Diffusion Network. Storythings are going a podcasting bootcamp.
Winner DX Lab Fellowship #3. Mauricio Giraldo is the winner of the State Library of NSW's fellowship for "using computers to mass-produce pixel-based metadata" based on the Library's digitised images.
It's Centred That. Give this a go and see how long it takes you to get 10 out of 10.
Jobs
There are digital-related jobs available at Victoria & Albert Museum, National Trust, Almeida Theatre, and the Royal Albert Hall.
As ever, please share the good stuff with anyone who might want to read it and I'll be back with more soon.
