#172 - A strange decision
Cultural Digital
Hello
This week we have accessibility, online collections, and data. Plus a mixed bag of other things.
FreddieMeter "analyzes your singing using machine learning models that have been trained on the original studio tapes of Freddie singing". One of Google's AI Experiments made with The Mercury Phoenix Trust.
Accessibility
State of Theatre Access 2019. 26% of the theatre websites audited failed to include access information. This report includes "a checklist of essential information that all venues should have".
Our web accessibility journey as a ‘visual arts’ organisation. From Alice Read at the Paul Mellon Centre.
Online collections
Digital Catalogues Study. "A cross-institutional user study of online museum collection catalogues". Findings from a study of scholarly digital catalogues published by the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The Neues Museum is claiming copyright over 3D-printing files of the Nefertiti bust. "When a German museum lost its fight over 3D-printing files of the 3,000-year-old artwork, it made a strange decision".
Collections :: Digitizing the Donor Experience. From the Smithsonian, this project asked questions like "How can digitized objects affect levels of donors' giving?" and "How can organizations partner with other museums, and their digital objects, to complement a collection and tell a broader story?"
Data
Sweating the details with Nicholas Rougeux. An interview on the Data Stories podcast covering "how he gets inspiration for his projects, details about specific projects like those mentioned above, and technical details of how he actually produces these magical pieces of art".
Open Data | The National Lottery Heritage Fund. "We are committed to transparency so that people can have the information they need about our grant funding. For this reason we support Open Data". I've had this link hanging around for a while. I wonder if anyone will do anything with this data.
Miscellaneous
The Digital Humanities Literacy Guidebook. "For newcomers, there’s a lot to be excited about at the intersection of technology and the humanities". Don't we know it.
Kiosk Application Framework "has been built to facilitate creation of touchscreen experiences (interactives)". From Richard Hulse, formerly at Te Papa.
Integrating Music Technology in the Classroom: Increasing Customization for Every Student. "The following study investigates emerging technologies and their implications for music education, inside and outside the classroom".
Will Robots Make the Next Big Bestsellers? "In November, around 100 coders and creative writers are expected to take the National Novel Generation Month (NaNoGenMo) challenge".
Choreography Online is "an online platform that sells performance rights for dance choreography on behalf of choreographers all over the world".
