#192 - So adeptly designed
Hello
I hope you're doing well. Let's have a look at what's been happening.
Sounds of the Forest comes from Timber, The International Forest Festival. Pick a forest, close your eyes, and take a moment to pretend you're somewhere else.
Is it theatre?
'Human Resources," at Woolly mammoth, is a 'play' you access only by telephone. Apparently they "began brainstorming this riff on the customer-service hotline in 2019, well before the virus informed the theater field that its menu options had changed".
Is It Theater? Chekhov's 'The Seagull' Adaptation For The Sims 4 To Stream On Twitch. "Playwright Celine Song is transforming Anton Chekhov's The Seagull into something avant-garde — by adapting a version that will be presented in The Sims 4 video game and streamed on Twitch". You can watch it here.
Giselle is "a hypertext journey through the past, present and future worlds of Giselle".
How Matthew Warchus Generated ‘Heat’ in an Empty Theater. About the Old Vic. I'd still love to know the real reason why they can't broadcast to more than 1,000 people at a time.
Amazon and Netflix
A couple of organisations are working with the bigger streaming platforms:
Funding
UKRI launches Digital Innovation and Engagement fund for museums. "grants of up to £50k to scale up and evaluate the innovations they’ve so adeptly designed through the COVID-19 pandemic".
Apply now for a grant of up to £50k from the Digital Collaboration Fund. For "organisations in the UK and selected countries overseas to collaborate digitally on international projects".
Miscellaneous
Digital Readiness and Innovation in Museums. The Knight Foundation on "challenges and opportunities that might exist in building capacity for resiliency as the cultural landscape changes".
Alice Curiouser and Curiouser exhibition teaser in virtual reality "Join an avatar of curator Kate Bailey as she guides us through the 5 sections of the exhibition in a unique virtual V&A setting".
Rob Baker on MoMA and museums beyond the exhibition. The second half of this video is about post-lockdown matters at MoMA.
Digital Jobs
There are digital-related jobs going at The Place, National Portrait Gallery, and Substrakt.
I'll finish with a few plugs, which is something I try not to do too often so forgive me:
