Cultural Digital #003
Cultural Digital
Hello
It's the third one of these (already). I'd be really interested in your thoughts on what's working and what could be better. Would you mind filling out this very quick survey?

BMGA Digital Roadmap 2014-2020
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery are using a public Trello board. There are some interesting items on the to do list.
Tech trivialises art?
Lee Rosenbaum criticised some museum tech projects leading to some chat on Twitter, rounded-up in the Storify linked to above. Some reasonable points made on both sides.
Embedded: Sound & Music and the Open Data Institute
"The selected composer will have 9 months to work as an Artist in Residence at the Open Data Institute to create a new music or sound work inspired by, using or telling stories of open data."
NetPark
"NetPark is a new visitor attraction for Southend and presents a collection of specially commissioned, site-specific, digital artworks and stories for Chalkwell Park in Southend on Sea."
British Library web strategy: start anywhere, go anywhere
"When we started a major root-and-branch redevelopment of the Library’s 100+ ‘websites’ in 2011, growth in online usage had pretty much flat-lined and customer satisfaction was nose-diving. Three-and-a-bit years later, we’re now looking at a much more encouraging picture and the beginnings of a sustained turnaround in usage of our digital collections and online services."
How to deal with 150m pieces of content? A Q&A with the British Library
A good follow-up to the previous link. This is a chat with Graham MacFadyen, Head of Digital and Marketing Operations. Predictably, I was most interested in the bit about their online KPIs.
The LA Phil's virtual reality concert
This looks like it's been very nicely done. Plus they're touring it round in a van.
Results from WhatsOnStage's Ticket Purchasing Survey (PDF)
Some interesting/useful things to pick through here. Especially the factors that are influential in deciding what to see (celebs!) and those that are important when buying a ticket (presumably mostly applicable when there's a choice of plays to buy from).
How to get first-time visitors to come back
This is the sort of thing you can do with a CRM and a bit of thought.
How Fox Sports News increased site engagement
The news/blogs/articles sections of many websites aren't all that well thought through (in my humble opinion). "Users who clicked on a link were only presented with that article and had to proactively search for other things they might want to read or watch on the site. Often, that meant a lot of drop-off." Sounds familiar? This is what they did to address that.
Events
29-30 Oct, Berlin: Europe Talks Tickets (which I'll be speaking at - woop!)
11 Nov, London: Creative Data Club
Jobs (provided by Artful Jobs)

That's that for this one. Again, please forward this on to others if you found it useful. Or share it on Twitter or what have you. And thanks to those that have before.
Cheers
