Next Steps in the Met's Digital Evolution
"None of the changes we are putting in place is revolutionary, but the changes respond to the changing expectations and habits of our audiences, new practices within the digital sector, and the strategic priorities of the Museum."
Which kinda chimes with the observation that digital transformation isn't about heroic interventions and brilliant ideas - that it's actually kinda boring.
Shareable Exhibitions
Something I wrote at the beginning of this year. I've found myself referring back to it a few times recently, so here it is if you missed it the first time.
Digital Archives & the Content Strategist
A couple of quotes from this that stuck with me:
"a digital collection still needs a story to support outside interest, something stronger than “full-text searchable.†Without curation, what’s the difference between a digital archive and the rest of the internet?"
"Applying archival principles to content strategy makes for solid content - I can demonstrate this, and I exercise it in my work. Applying content strategy to archives, however, just might keep those archives alive."
Digital Storytelling
Following on from that, this deck is from today's Going Beyond Digitisation conference. Sadly, the slides don't make much sense on their own, but you can get the gist. Plenty of case studies in there.
Should the arts stop using the term ‘digital’? Is it ready to?
Is it feasible? Would it make much difference? Do we need to decide on this now? None of these questions are answered in this article either (I'm being unfair - it's worth a read).
Audio: Interview with Chris McMurtry of Dart Music
This starts with an explanation of classical music's metadata and discovery challenges. Later on discusses how innovation in music follows tech innovations.
Grammofy
Continuing the classical metadata thing, this is "A music streaming service helping people discover, enjoy and share fresh new classical music". What d'you reckon. Will it still be going a year from now?

Digital research strand of the ‘Stronger Together’ action research programme. This is a chunky one.
How digitally capable are Scotland’s arts?
Culture Republic "carried out desk research that looked at public facing operational functions carried out by arts organisations".

Interactive Storytelling
On a similar theme, here's a big list of case studies. Plenty to delve into here.
