Hello there. It looks like a few people had a lot of fun with Craiyon last week. Will AI take our jobs, or just distract us from them? Probably both.
Tapefan is a Japanese blog dedicated to blank cassette design.
It’s been going for 12 years. It’s weirdly evocative (for those of a certain age). And the blog is powered by Excite(!), which I didn’t realise is still a thing. Basically there’s lots to love about this (although YMMV).
Podcasts
Royal Academy: A canvas for creative communication - Social Creatures. The Sprout Social podcast features “Fionnoula Deasy, social media lead at the renowned institution and longest established art school in Britain”.
Moving IT On - Impact and Evaluation. A podcast from the Bridge organisations exploring all things arts/tech within education and learning. This one highlights “resources and approaches used by colleagues within the education sector to ensure that digital and blended practices achieve maximum impact”.
Has the drop in visitors changed museums forever? This is from a while back, but I had a chat with Aimee Dawson on The Art Newspaper's podcast about “museums’ work in the digital field, how effective it has been and how it might be used in the future”.
Behind the Scenes of Podcast Curation with Spotify Podcast Editorial. “Discover how the Spotify team selects podcasts they feature and what creators can do to be considered”.
Collection connections
(Im)possible counter-archives was commissioned by the Museo Reina Sofía as part of Rethinking Guernica back in 2018. The developers, Biko2, looked back at how the digital part of the project came together.
An Ocean of Books. One of Google’s Arts Experiments.
Towards A National Collection: Foundation Projects. A load of reports have been published setting out evidence and policy recommendations to inform the future development of the ‘national collection’ (one of the findings of which is that ‘national collection’ is a loaded term).
Other
Spotify to buy Heardle, popular music trivia game. “The big picture: Games are increasingly being used by media giants to push users to spend more time with their content and on their platform”.
History of Web Design Quiz | Web Design Museum. Related to the above, I guess. Quizzes are fun, informative, and shareable. I’m surprised more cultural organisations don’t do them.
V&A Older Kids & Teens and Young Adult Products. “The V&A plans to launch a new scalable, replicable, publishing platform to support different content propositions for two key audience targets online”. Tender notices and job descriptions are always a good way of spotting the bigger moves an organisation is planning.
The Charity Digital Skills Report is “the annual barometer of charities’ digital skills, attitudes and behaviours”.

This might be my second-last plug of the 2022 Cultural Content Survey. Please fill it out if you haven’t already. Here’s a very early peek at some of the responses.
Until next time.
Ok, one last plug. If you’re trying to get your head around Google Analytics 4 then come along to this on Weds 27 July and I’ll tell you some helpful stuff.
