Hello
We’re back with some impish artistry, return of the apps, environmental studies, and lots more besides.
Quite often, I check the stats and post the three most popular links over on LinkedIn, in case you’re curious. This is one of those where I have no idea what you’ll find most interesting (which I think is a good thing).
Gethyn Davies is a painter and filmmaker (he used to be an animator specialising in TV adverts) who mixes the two things on Instagram to devilish effect. This interview is worth a read too.
Apps and games
App stores and museums. “Some thoughts about apps, app stores, and art on the internet”. From Colin Brooks, Head of Digital Development at the Whitney.
National Trust launches HistoryScapes storytelling app at three sites to offer a "‘time travel experience’ through voices from the past".
Art Links is a blockchain-based game from the Met Museum in partnership with TRLab. You have to find threads linking artworks across their collection.
Macbeth-inspired video game, Lili. The Royal Shakespeare Company has “teamed up with New York-based immersive game producer iNK Stories to develop our first ever video game, a trailblazing vision set in contemporary Iran with Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth at the centre”.
TimeGuessr. It's like GeoGuessr, but the historical archive photo side to it means I can include it here.
Environmental
Cultural websites carbon footprint study. From Supercool. “We’ll be tracking the carbon footprints of 65 websites in the UK arts, cultural and heritage sector. We’ll then use that data to publish a website carbon footprint benchmarking report”.
Encode(Muse). This University of St Andrews Impact & Innovation Fund project examines the environmental cost of digital activity in museums.

The second wave of immersive institutions has arrived—how can traditional museums and galleries harness their power? By Chris Michaels.
TikTok's Final Bow. “Thirteen #TheatreTikTok creators on what's next for the niche”. This didn’t age well, but if nothing else it was an insight into an online community I had’t really come across.
Announcing the 2025 Digital Culture Awards Shortlist! From the Digital Culture Network.
We’re hiring at One Further. We’re looking for a PPC-focused Digital Marketer to join the team (we do a lot of Google Ad Grants, some Meta Ads, and more besides).
We work remotely and with lots of fantastic arts and culture clients. If you (or someone you know) fit the bill then the details are on that link.
As always, thanks for reading. Please pass this on to others.
See you soon
