Hello
We’re back with another round-up of interesting bits and pieces. This time round we’ve got an interesting AI-enhanced animation workflow, loads of games, and some thinking about why digital projects don’t go as planned.
A Love Letter to LA is a collaboration between Cuco (musician), Paul Trillo (director), Paul Flores (artist), and load of others.
I’m posting this for the workflow video. That talks about how they used an AI LoRA model trained on 60 hand-drawn assets, generative 3D extrusion, generative motion, style transfer, and all sorts of other things alongside traditional 2D animation techniques.
Interested in a free content strategy workshop? We’re working on some new workshops and would like to test them out. They’ll be delivered in London in the next couple of months but there are likely to be remote versions at some point too. Head here for details.
Doing digital better
Beyond the promise - when digital falls short. From Ash Mann. “This anonymous survey aims to uncover common challenges and lessons from past digital projects. By sharing experiences, we can identify patterns, avoid pitfalls, and make digital work better for everyone”. Fill it out if you’ve ever been involved with a digital project that went wonky.
Stop, Look, Think: How to manage digital vulnerabilities. From Elizabeth Merritt in the AAM's Museum magazine. "What risks are posed by our current reliance on digital storage, platforms, and tools? How can museums recognize and mitigate these vulnerabilities?"
Ctrl+Alt+Preserve: Why Museums Must Invest in Digital Resilience. Nik Honeysett found some interesting data. “Of the organizations surveyed, roughly 45 percent dedicated no more than 5 percent of their total budget to communication and digital activities”. With quite a few falling into the ‘deficient’ and ‘delinquent’ ranges.
Scene Change. A recent report from the National Theatre includes this under ‘Impact of Technological Gaps’. “Digital adoption and IT infrastructure are significantly underdeveloped across the non-profit sector. While some large-scale organisations experiment with digital revenue streams, widespread technological inefficiencies hinder innovation and audience engagement”.
Games
Two Point Museum. The latest in the Two Point series has been picking up strong reviews. The trailer does look great.
Roblox and Bunka Fashion College unveil first graduate collection of virtual fashion items. This is the first collection from its Digital Fashion Program.
Museum of All Things by Maya Claire. “Visit the Museum of All Things, a nearly-infinite virtual museum generated from Wikipedia!”
DOOM: The Gallery Experience “was created as an art piece designed to parody the wonderfully pretentious world of gallery openings”.
Other
A digital strategy for the UK cultural sector. “Researcher Susan Oman spent two years embedded within DCMS on a policy fellowship. Here they explain why the resultant digital policy recommendations depend on shared understanding”. And here’s the full report.
Ally Louks on LinkedIn. “Cambridge PhD student Dr Ally Louks went viral last year when she posted a photo of her thesis on the politics of smell in modern and contemporary prose. Here's her story about what happened next.”
CultureTalk: Embracing Digital Transformation and the Power of Culture with Queens Theatre. An interview with Jay Rogers (Operations Director and General Manager) about the evolution of their ticketing over the years.
Thanks for reading. Please spread the word, and let me know if Two Point Museum is worth playing if you give it a go.
